Hi, I’m Shuayb (Jet)
A passionate, loving, and energetic biologist, RA and Certified Community Health Worker who thrives on exploring the natural world, empowering communities, and capturing authentic moments through their dedication and curiosity.

Early on
I am always so fascinated by biology and its ability to uncover the incredible connections between life and the environment. Early on, I fell in love with understanding the natural world and how it shapes us, so I set out to study everything I could to make a meaningful impact.
Early Achievements:
- Received officially signed and stamped Recognition Letter from the General Assembly of the State of Ohio House of Representatives, sponsored by Representative David Leland of House District 22 after I graduated The Ohio State University with my Bachelor’s in Science in Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology (EEOB).
- Summer 2020 Undergraduate Research Symposium The Consortium at Ohio State:
- Shuayb (Jet) Jama
- Dr. A. Rinehart, Ohio State University Libraries, The Ohio State University
- Dr. K. O’Brien, Museum of Biological Diversity, The Ohio State University
- Title: Lantern Slides Take Over!
- Abstract: Museum collections are often valued for their research potential, however the objects within the museum are powerful tools for engaging the public in learning about the natural world. A lantern slide was a way to show pictures in lecture from 1900s – 1960s. I digitized a set of lantern slides used by Donald J. Borror, a professor at The Ohio State University, and researched his life. To study public engagement, I set up a week of social media posts and assessed what was most successful. Slides connected to personal stories had higher engagement then posts that were only about biodiversity.

- FALL 2021 LSAMP Scholar Spotlight
- The Ohio State LSAMP program, a member of the Ohio LSAMP Alliance, is a four-year cohort program that works to increase the retention and graduation of underrepresented students pursuing STEM degrees at the Ohio State University. Through intentional programming, personalized requirements, and community partnerships, the program supports the academic, professional, and social development of the Ohio State LSAMP students and prepares them for long-term careers in STEM fields.
- Won 2 undergraduate research awards two different years.
- Presented multiple research posters for multiple projects in multiple conferences
Current
After graduating, I spent a year working as a Research Associate in Research Outcomes with Sarepta Therapeutics, where I focused on nonclinical work. Now, my career has shifted toward public health and behavioral health, where I focus on empowering communities and improving well-being. I am a Certified Community Health Worker (CHW) and am currently working toward obtaining my prevention license through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
